Killzone 2 is a great multiplayer game but can be hard to get into. A few simple steps will get you in the right multiplayer matches and you will be leveling up and having a blast in this Playstation 3 exclusive shooter.
Why post this now? The game has indeed been out since last February though the online multiplayer community is still active and Killzone 2 is included in many new PS3 slim bundles so there are many new players. Killzone 2 also can now also be found on sale pretty cheap and is totally worth playing.
Here are some simple tips to get you off on the right foot in Killzone 2 Multiplayer:
Stick to smaller rooms first
If you are a beginner only enter smaller rooms. 32 player rooms can be extremely hectic so stick to smaller rooms until you have ranked up significantly. Try 8 vs 8, or 10 vs. 10 player rooms and work your way up.
Finding Good Multiplayer Rooms Is Key
Finding good multiplayer matches is easy of you know what to look for. Guerrilla games should have added matchmaking with standard room types but they did not. The rooms you can enter can and will greatly vary due to the standard matchmaking omission. New players should stick to “DEATHMATCH ONLY” rooms. These will be denoted by a “SKULL” icon only and all other icons grayed out. Deathmatch only is a fast way to rank up and unlock additional classes and abilities.
Also be sure that the match DOES NOT allow “CUSTOM WEAPONS” and DOES NOT allow “CUSTOM BADGES”. Custom weapons and badges can allow for some really powerful players which may not be fair to new players who have not unlocked all of the weapons and abilities. They will kill you often. Avoid these rooms and the frustration of dieing at the hands of overpowered experienced players. Again, NO CUSTOM WEAPONS, NO CUSTOM BADGE matches until you have unlocked classes and abilities yourself. When browsing the room types on the right side of the screen above the game type icons “CUSTOM WEAPONS” AND “CUSTOM BADGES” should NOT be highlighted. Make sure that “FACTION BALANCING” is highlighted as that will ensure that the teams are balanced in terms of player rank and skill.
Use the Call of Duty type control scheme. If the controls feel weird then change them.
Killzone 2 was patched post release and they added high precision mode that made the controls more precise removing the dead zone. Many players may have missed this addition because its a check box named “HIGH PRECISION MODE” that can be easy to miss. Also if you would like the controls similar to Call of Duty games then select “ALTERNATE 2” a your control scheme and don’t forget to check the “ZOOM HOLD” box which will use the down the sights when the button is held and will go back to from the hip mode when you let go the button similar to Call of Duty games.

When playing Kllzone 2 multiplayer mode shooting from the hip is almost always your best bet. The “down the irons” or “iron sight” zoom aiming mode should only be used for enemies that are much further away. In most encounters with enemies in your vicinity you should shoot from the hip. So shoot from the hip most of the time to rack up those kills.
Get and use the M4 Revolver
Try a few Pistol only rooms to unlock the M4 Revolver. it is a powerful pistol that will allow for 1 hit kills. You can unlock it by killing 10 enemies with a pistol in 8 different multiplayer matches. Pistol only rooms are an easy way to unlock this weapon. Once you have unlocked the M4 revolver in Killzone 2 it should be the only pistol you use.
Remember to take it slower
Do not rush out into the middle of chaos. Ease into gunfights and pick off your enemies. Strafe while shooting and find cover when your energy is low to avoid being killed. Also remember that crouching and shooting is more accurate that standing and shooting.
