So this is something i have been thinking about for awhile now. It will soon be 3 years since the PS3 has been available and it is still behind the 360 and Wii in terms of sales. That doesn’t mean there is a lack of great games for it, with some absolutely killer exclusives been released plus a hell of alot of great multi platform games aswel. A few examples of these games are

Exclusives

Uncharted Drakes Fortune
Metal Gear Solid 4
LittleBigPlanet
Killzone 2
Resistence 1 & 2
Motorstorm 1 & 2

Multi-Platform

Grand Theft Auto IV
Street Fighter IV
Call of Duty Modern Warfare
Call of Duty World at War
Fallout 3
Dead Space

So why is it then that the PS3 is still lagging behind? It’s not the shortage of games, and not the shortage of Exclusives espcially with more incredible games on their way this year (Uncharted 2, God of War 3 anyone?)
It it entirely down to Sony and the way they are running their business at the moment.
From all the stuff you can read about the PS3’s state at the moment you would actually think that Sony want it to fail.
Why withold simple concepts from the public which we want to use in favor of shit that nobody wants (No cross game voice chat, Text chat rooms instead :confused:)
The PS3 is an incredibly powerful machine and developers are now getting used to programming for it as we have seen with some beautiful games. Yet sony still seems to be fucking up.
The PS2 is like the biggest selling console of all time and Sony don’t seem to want to emulate that success. If they need to rip off Microsoft to gain sales then do it for christ sake. At least they will be doing something right. Trophies were a great addition, ok it was something that should have been included from the start but they got there and they are addictive to get.
Sales in Japan have started to pick up and we are now frequently seeing the PS3 top sales charts above the Wii, could this be the PS3 is starting to claim it’s dominance or is it just the fact everyone in the world owns a Wii now so sales are bound to begin to drop. I dunno, it’s possible.
Why is the PSN so fucked up? Why begin to release PSone classics for download, but then release them at a snails pace. Putting up games that are not classic PSone games for a start really pisses me off. Ye coz people really do want The Little Mermaid on PSN over Metal Gear Solid, well done Sony, you got something spot on right there. It is a joke. The fact that the PSN doesn’t get as many demos and DLC as the 360 does is also an absolute joke. Something about they charge developers to release them on PSN or something, i dunno i forgot lol. Anyway they just keep shooting themselves in the foot and it’s a shame. I want the PS3 to be successful i really do. I want the to justify my purchase and make me believe it’s the most powerful console on the market and it’s the console i need. I want them to make me shout FUCK MICROSOFT I GOT A PS3 THATS ALL I NEED!!!!! but they are just not doing that.
The games aren’t the problem, it’s just the way Sony are going about their business in regards to DLC, the PSN as a whole, firmware additions. It’s not making us jump for joy.
There was a whole lot of Promise for the PS3 and not so much delivery.

Lets try and get abit of a discussion going on here and not just useless

There’s only a few reasons why I don’t think it’ll ever match the PS2 in terms of sales & success.

1) It’s too expensive!! When it’s main rival is nearly half the price, even with the benefits the PS3 offers, the majority of people will go for the cheaper equivalent.

Most people are buying a games console for gaming, not for Blu-Ray. Even with a bigger memory, I don’t think most people use even half the 80g’s. Casual gamers (& thats what most people are these days) will never use all that.

2) The games. I might be in the minority here, but none of those exclusives are games I want. Don’t get me wrong, a few of them, if they were out for 360, I might have a look at, but none of them stand out in the way some Xbox exclusives do.

Gears of War & Halo are much bigger exclusives then any PS3 exclusive.

3) The DLC & XBox Live. PS3 is not a patch on Xbox.

GTA, despite not living up to the hype, still sold millions & millions. The fact that DLC is Xbox exclusive is a massive nail in the PS3 coffin.

It’s not just GTA its the same with loads of games. Xbox online pisses all over PS3.

For all those reasons, PS3 will never be a big as a success as the PS2. It’s main rival is the better games machine at the better price.
