Ok before I will give you the site where you can find the info on your own. It might be a little intimidating at first but it definitely is NOT as hard as it seems. I’ll warn you though if you don’t have patience and at least 15 minutes to set up everything *RIGHT* so you can play hassle free, then leave right now. You will need a decent enough computer to run the Nintendo 64 Emulator (Mupen), the ROMS or games which I can direct to you via PM, and a high speed internet connection so you don’t lag everyone else. If you know how to navigate, copy/paste, and follow directions then you will be playing in no time.
http://www.goldeneyeonline.com <- Site that explains everything you need to know if you have any further doubts that I cannot explain here.
Also here is a preview of what is possible today. GoldenEye Online AND never before playable maps including almost all the single player maps for multiplayer, and Perfect Dark maps. (More on this at http://www.goldeneyevault.com) I will provide the games that have the hacked maps as well later on.OK so first thing you need is the emulator called Mupen64++ 0.1.3.12 Beta which I will be providing here. (Note: you may have heard of Project64 but it only plays Smash Bros online and is crap :v:)
Mupen64++_0.1.3.12_Beta.zipBefore playing you must set up your ROM folder(where your games are contained), your video plugin & settings, your input(control) plugin & settings, and your sound plugin & settings. I will try to make this as easy as possible.
First off, when you extract the emulator and run mupen64pp.exe, you will see a notepad message, close it and go immediately to Options -> Settings(pic). You will see the Plugins tab, change the plugins as follows
Video Plugin: Jabo’s Direct3D8 1.6
Input Plugin: DarkMan’s DInput 4.0b if you plan on using mouse+keyboard like FPS PC games, or N-Rage’s Direct-Input8 v2 1.83 if you plan on using a Xbox 360 control or gamepad of any type, or if you just want to use straight up keyboard.
Audio Plugin: Jabo’s DirectSound 1.5
(Here’s what that should look like: pic)The rest leave intact.
Now go to the Directories tab in Settings (tab next to Plugins) and click where it says Add in the ROM Directories box. Here you are prompted to select the folder that contains your N64 ROMS. Pick whatever folder you plan to download them to, then when you get them all you have to do is go to the main menu bar in the emulator, go to File->Refresh ROM List or just hit CTRL+R. (pic of this)
After this, go to the General tab in the settings (tab next to Directories), and only check/uncheck the following: Uncheck “Speed Modifier” in Fps/VIs and uncheck “Use compressed ini file” in Ini file at the end. (pic of this)
As far as settings go we’re done, you can leave Advanced settings intact. I will explain video settings and input/control settings in my next post. Audio is fine as it is.
P.S.: Not just GoldenEye works online, many other games like Mario Kart, Perfect Dark, and Super Smash Bros. work just as fine.
03/13/2008 at 2:17 am #21714interesting, but it sound like you have to go through a alot of trouble
btw welcome to GMX
03/13/2008 at 2:25 am #21718Ok now we’re halfway there, all that’s left is setting up video & control settings, and getting online. Ok I’m assuming all has went well up to here and your plugins are the right ones. Now from the emulator main screen, in the main menu bar go to Options -> Video Settings. Now all you have to do is set everything to exactly how you see it here:

Now input is a little trickier. For shooting games like GoldenEye & Perfect Dark if you choose to use mouse and keyboard like I do, there is a easy way to set it up so that you move forward/backward and left and right with W, A, S, D, fire with the Left Mouse Button, Aim with the Right Mouse Button, reload/open doors with R/Space bar, and change weapons with scroll wheel up/middle mouse button. Just go to Options -> Input Settings, and if you selected DarkMan’s DInput 4.0b in Plugin settings, then you should see this. pic
Now what you want to do is select the Goldeneye 007 profile from the Profile drop-down menu. You will then see the following screen.

Everything is basically set up for you from the get go but what you might want to change is your look sensitivity on the right, select vertical look & targeting invert if you play like that, and add a key to “Next Weapon”. Just click where it says “none” and hit “R”. Then to change “Use”, click where it says “E” and press your middle mouse button, or the scroll wheel up. That’s pretty much it, if you want to have reload in space bar or somewhere else then just go to Profile Editor in the lower left corner and select GoldenEye 007 to edit the profile more in depth, here’s a pic of what to do and where to do it. pic here
If you choose to play with a gamepad/Xbox 360 Controller or just keyboard, read below.

no lol did you read it? its worth whatever trouble you go through anyways and it really isnt all that hard. downloading and cracking PC games is way harder and a lot of people do it so this shouldnt be that hard.
03/13/2008 at 2:33 am #21721I did actually I will prbly try it out later on, do you have any game systems?
03/13/2008 at 2:35 am #21722Yeah I have Xbox, Xbox 360, GameCube and others but I don’t really use them. I had Halo 3 but don’t like it, have Call Of Duty 4 but don’t really play it that often. My cousin does all the playing but he retired recently lmao. I personally prefer the old Xbox games and will take Halo over any of the new ones coming out now. But that’s just me lol
03/13/2008 at 2:39 am #21724Ok so here I will explain how to set up your controls (to some extent) if your playing with a gamepad or Xbox 360 Controller or whatever. I’m assuming you chose N-Rage’s Direct-Input8 v2 1.83 as a Input plugin in Plugins. So now go to Options -> Input Settings, and you will see this:
03/13/2008 at 2:48 am #21728Ok so here I will explain how to set up your controls (to some extent) if your playing with a gamepad or Xbox 360 Controller or whatever. I’m assuming you chose N-Rage’s Direct-Input8 v2 1.83 as a Input plugin in Plugins. So now go to Options -> Input Settings, and you will see this:

First you want to select your gamepad, so go to the Devices tab and in the Device box, select your device from the drop-down menu. (pic) If you don’t see anything here it is either (A) because your PC hasn’t detected your gamepad or (
because the plugin won’t detect the gamepad. After you have selected it you may want to change the DeadZone to 5% or 10%, this will be the sensibility of the joysticks. After this all you have to do is go to the Controls tab, and map all the buttons, d-pad(digital pad) and analog stick. Leave the analog range at 66% and leave the “Real N64 Range” box checked.Last but not least, go to the Controller Pak tab and make SURE you uncheck the RawData box, as this is the major cause of desync(online problem). Select MemPak from the drop-down menu, then press Save and you’re done. You may want to try your controls out before heading online for play.
03/13/2008 at 2:57 am #21731NOW the most important part, the online play. By now you should have set up your video settings, your input, and have the ROMS in your ROM list. Now let’s head into the battlefield. From the emulator main menu bar, go to Utilities-> SupraClient (NetPlay). This will bring up the online client where you connect to the server where you make your online game. If everything is ok then you should see this:

This is the main client window, here you enter your info like username, connection type(leave good unless playing Mario Kart where you should use LAN type). In the highlighted area, enter a username by which you will be recognized when you join the server. The rest of the stuff leave alone for now.
Next, click the “Servers” button to get to the server list, and right-click where it says, then hit refresh. pic here
After this you will get a list of the Kaillera servers available. The one where almost all the N64 emulation goes on and where you will almost always find GoldenEye players is in the server “Emularena Grounds – {Unit X}” server (IP: 69.90.34.14:27888). To login to this server, just copy that IP into the empty box above username, then click “Login”. Now the server will appear in your “Recent List” tab in the servers list next time you use it.
After you connect to the server, you should see something like this.

Heres is where all the fun takes place. The host of the game being played will create the game room here and other players will join him here. Notice the different emulators and games being played, you cannot play with them since you are not on that emulator and don’t worry, all the Project64k 0.13 players usually play is Super Smash Bros. which can be played in Mupen64++ 0.1.3.12 as well.
03/13/2008 at 6:28 pm #21754so anyone try it yet or interested?
03/15/2008 at 4:40 am #21801Now to create a room if you plan to host a game, click on “Create” and a list of your games sorted by letter will appear. Note that you must have the ROMS available in your ROM list before opening the client for them to appear here. Suppose you want to play GoldenEye, you would go to the “G” and select the ROM you want to play; in this case regular GoldenEye or GoldenEye (U) [!].

After you create the game, you will be taken to the game room, where the other players will join you to play. There is a chat section where you can chat with the players in the game room, or the chat on top which is the global server chat where all players in the server can chat. On the top right is a list of all the players in the server, and on the bottom right is a list of the players in the room.

When you have players and want to start a game, just click “Start” and the emulator will load up the game in all players’ computers. Then all of you will be in the game. If players desire to view the game in fullscreen after the game has started, just hit ALT+ENTER but make sure all players do it and all their computers are capable of playing well while in fullscreen. By this point, you are playing online hopefully with no desynch!
Now I’m going to run down a few problems that arise while playing online.
Lag is when the game freezes for a few seconds due to a player/players dropping “packets” (basically just not sending/receiving information) through their connection. The emulator attempts to catch all the players up but when they fail to land on the same spot in the game, desynch occurs and this is when you may see a player stop moving, playing strangely or slapping the air or walls in GoldenEye for example. This used to be a huge problem due to the emulators not being capable of syncing games right but now it is very easy to avoid. Just make sure all players are using the same video plugins or at least have a similar video setup, and are not going to experience a lot of lag due to their connections being used up.
Well I hope you have been able to get to this point without any problems, and hope to play with you soon!

03/18/2008 at 11:46 am #21867Thanks for the INFO, and btw whats up A.J. (is it cool to call you that?) to this wonderful site. In which they let you be free, compare to Punk Ass NEOGAF. Keep up the good work and keep being active buddy.
I do not want Trophies, Money or not even a title saying I am number "1". You can have your cheap trophies, paper titles, and dingy headbands. I am a "STORY" to my peers, a "LEGEND" for your kids to hear, and a "FOLKLORE" to keep you from dieing with fear - Calvin D. Kates aka Chauncy "TRU" Talon.
