OK so it’s not long to go now until the next installment of Resident Evil finally hits shelves.
It has been a long time coming. I remember the game was announced even before the 360 was released and for some reason amazon was claiming it was a launch title lmao!!!!
So theres 3 years worth of waiting alone.
Anyway this is the official thread to talk about everything related to Resident Evil 5.Well first things first, I am a HUGE Resident Evil fan, i have loved and played many times nearly every game released in the series. Well apart from the dire Outbreak games that were released on PS2 and were meant to be Online.
Anyway the first 3 games have always been my favourite and i could play them over and over again and never get bored.
Resi 4 was an immense experience, however in my opinion making the series more action orientated has been a very big drawback for me. This leads me on to my thoughts about the new game.
First off it looks incredible, however, in all honesty, i must say i didn’t really enjoy the demo, i have been waiting for this game for about 3 years like i said earlier and the demo seemed a big disappointment, so disappointing infact that i didn’t even finish one of the levels.
This is down to a combination of things. First of all, the setting, now i have no qualms about the game being set in africa, but come on, daylight in Africa, NO, daylight is not going to build the suspense and tension so many other Resident Evil games have perfected. Second, the camera and controls. The camera to me seemed to be too close to Chris, and i’m sure it was abit further away to Leon in Resi 4. This made me feel abit too closed in and i wasn’t able to see alot. Now, the controls. Chris moves like a tank, even more so it seems than in the other games, there is no fluidity to his movement. I also found it quite hard to properly aim with the current configuration. I think if they are going to have more action in the game then they should have brought in the run and gun feature. Would have made it a far better experience. Now my most major drawback, the game is too far action orientated, and this emphasis on co-op is not what resident evil should be about. I was reading through some hands on articles on ign and even they were saying that some gamers will just get fed up of playing alone, and Sheva’s AI is not that impressive and it’s obviously been built for that online co-op experience. That to me, just doesn’t make this an authentic Resident Evil experience. Having someone chatting down your headset will not create tension and suspense and more often than not, take you out of the experience, and i actually enjoy the story elements of these games.
I mean Talon is my boy and everything but when we play games together we are constantly talking and laughing, so at times when we have ran some Gears i don’t even bother listening to what is going on in the story because we are talking amongst ourselves anyway.
I’m not a fan of the series moving more towards action. I’m really not. I prefer to play these games in the dark and be sat on the edge of my seat in suspense.
Now don’t get me wrong, i will be buying the full retail version, because i have no doubt that overall it will be a good game, but as for that authentic Resident Evil experience well thats down to Capcom and Sony to release the first 3 titles on the PSN. Please god i hope they do that soon.
I have noticed though that the game has been picking up quite alot of hate. Just go read some of the forums on other game sites and you will see that alot of people are not happy with this new installment. Even people who have been fans from day one with the very first game all those years ago.
I suppose we can only wait and see if the full game can properly deliver, if not then we can all be happy with the Wii version of Resident Evil 4.02/05/2009 at 2:50 pm #34426From what I played in the demo it just seems like “horror” is taking a far back seat to the shooter action and that sucks not only because its a “resident evil” game known for horror but this sucks even more because the shooter controls in RE5 are subpar to the controls we have now in games like Dead Space.
Dead Space seems like its “Uncharted” and resident evil is “Tomb raider” if I had to make an analogy. Resident evil might go out like tomb radier and get bested in what its known for. Dead space is beating what I have seen of RE5 in both of the major categoruies that matter which are controls AND horor/suspence.

Exactly, you can tell that Dead Space was made with the intention to scare the audience. The way they have used sound is superb.
I was playing it last night and i was wary about turning the next corner because of what i might find. That is the sign of a true horror game. Unfortunately it looks like Silent Hill is going the same route as Resident Evil, as the newest release in that series, Homecoming, is also substituting genuine scares and suspense for more action orientated gameplay.
Brook i think your right when you say it might go out like Tomb Raider, even though Tomb Raider can still be fun to play, it let it’s self down when Lara went from raiding tombs to dumb shit that has no significance to a tomb whatsoever. Resident Evil has gone from a genuine survival horror to a pure action game, and that is a sad sight to see. No matter how good the final game will be, one thing is for sure, it’s abondoned it’s roots and is trying be like all the other action games out there.02/05/2009 at 5:44 pm #3443002/05/2009 at 9:40 pm #34443i downloaded and played the demo i thought it was just average i didnt expect much tho ever since they said the game would be held in the day time i knew it wasn’t going to be very scary plus like brooklyn said the control compared to now just seem very sub-par.
02/05/2009 at 9:50 pm #34447The demo sucked…but that chainsaw guy scared the shit outta me.
The movement is just so limited, I didn’t even have a chance against him…
03/05/2009 at 10:54 am #35254So the game is released next week.
I’ll be buying on day of release but will have to buy it on PS3.
I have to stick to my roots and play on PS3 like i have played so many other Resi games on Sonys System.
Plus the fact that i still haven’t updated my live subscription so if i want to play Co-Op i can only do it on PS3.03/05/2009 at 1:30 pm #35255Oh man…I forgot all about this game w/all the SF 4 stuff. It’s really a great game when both players are good, veteran RE players…just what we all wished for growing up. But Co-Op takes away from some of the gloom that you felt playing the older games alone…Who didn’t freak out when Nemisis chased your ass down at a dead end? YIKES!!!!
Cresent Waves for ALLLL!!!!

Folks, if you bitch. FUCK YOU. I am playing Street Fighter IV anyways. Fuck you!!!!!!!!!!
I do not want Trophies, Money or not even a title saying I am number "1". You can have your cheap trophies, paper titles, and dingy headbands. I am a "STORY" to my peers, a "LEGEND" for your kids to hear, and a "FOLKLORE" to keep you from dieing with fear - Calvin D. Kates aka Chauncy "TRU" Talon.
03/07/2009 at 8:45 am #3529503/07/2009 at 8:49 am #35296So ign’s reviews are up and just as was expected.
THIS IS NOT AN AUTHENTIC RESIDENT EVIL GAME!!!!!!!!!!!
This is an action game through and through. With no sense of tension and suspense.
I suppose Capcom have moved away from the roots of resident evil in order to make more money.
This is the only thing i can thing of.
This game will appeal more to Gears of War fans than actual Resi fans.
The game will sell shit loads but i can gurantee it won’t be fans of survival horror who will be first in line to buy this game.
It’s sad i know.
Lets just hope the orignal games get released on PSN soon.03/07/2009 at 9:43 pm #35312my gf is getting the red limited edition xbox 360 and this game comes with it so she’s giving me the game for free
