So i finally got my DSi after it arrived 5 days late.
I’ve only spent an hour with it, but first impressions count and i am impressed with it.
First of all i got the black colour version and it looks oh so sweet.
One of the things that struck me about the DSi is it kinda feels abit rubbery unlike the DS Lite, which gives it a much better grip.
The screens are noticeably larger which makes it all the more better.
I turned it on and then you have to set up your DSi.

All very easy. Once you get past all that you will see that the DSi has a menu now where you can access it’s different channels. Much like the Wii.
First thing i did was head to the DSi shop. The system needed updating which then allowed me to configure my wi-fi settings. Again all very easy to do and the update took about 2 mins to download.
When that had finished i then had to link my DSi to my club nintendo account and then i wa able to access the store. Which after i had done this i was given my free 1000 points. What i liked about the store on first glance was the music it played which is just like the one that is played on the Wii Shopping Channel.
I didn’t really take time to look at the different titles available on DSiWare at the moment because i’ve already read reviews on them and there is nothing that takes my fancy at the moment, so i went straight to downloading the free web browser. Now heres where things go abit downhill. The browser is slow, very slow and has trouble displaying webpages with alot of information in them. First page i tried was Facebook. I got to the login screen easily enough but then after i logged in i got an error message saying there was not enough memory to display the page properly. This was a problem ign talked about, so for all your facebook addicts out there, don’t bother trying to use it through your DSi. Next i obviously tried to get onto Gamemanx and SUCCESS!!!!! i was able to get on and look through the forums which even displayed pics that have been posted, but Youtube videos will not work on the DSi as i was told it doesn’t have a plugin which supports it. Gay i know.
Oh and i also wasn’t able to listen to the podcasts lol.
So even though i was gutted about facebook at least i know i can check out the greatest gaming site on the internet through my DSi if i’m out and about and i’m in a Wi-Fi spot.
Next it was time to try out the cameras and i was surprised at how clear they were. The room i tried it out in has alot of light in it so that was an added bonus but i doubt the cameras will work in the dark considering there is no flash. So bright light is essential. I check out a few of the camera features, like being able to distort them etc. It was kinda fun. My little niece was more impressed by it though, whereas it’s nothing that i can’t do with the camera on my phone, but you know i guess it’s nice to have just to play about with.
Well i think it’s about time we tried a game.
I popped in GTA China Town Wars and the game looks even better than when i was playing it on the older system. The DSi is supposed to be abit brighter and i could tell that it did the game alot of good. The graphics looked abit more vibrant and colourfull and the bigger screen sizes again just made the whole experience alot more enjoyable. Then i switched over to Chrono Trigger, and the same again. Game looks alot better than on the old systems, so i was very pleased.
Well thats about all the time i have spent with it at the moment.
Like i said, first impressions count and i was impressed.
I think the DSi has alot of potential through the games that can now be made to take advantage of the cameras but thats all up to the developers to exploit that feature.
Is it worth picking up if you already own a DS Lite? Hmmmmmmm i’m not sure as of yet. Obviously the GBA slot has gone so if you are a person who still plays their GBA games then i would suggest not to buy one. Not unless they bring the Virtual Console to the system and let us download GBA, Snes and NES games. If they do that then i will be very happy.
I think you really need to weigh up the Pros and Cons of the system before you make your purchase. For me, i am very happy with it. I didn’t own a DS before and with me not having any GBA catridges as i got rid of them all years ago then i have no reason to complain about the lack of the GBA slot.

I mind as well say that DSi is alot better than the PSP. I cant say if it is better the DS Lite because I never owned one and the last Nintendo portable system I had was the Game Boy Color. I actually didn’t like the feel of the DSi for a while it felt weird to me unlike the previous DS. Yes I agree the Web Browser is very slow and the only sites I tried was GameManx and it worked fairly well but then tried Youtube and that did not work :mad:. The main screen looks alot like the Wii with the different channels. I havent used my points either since the games dont looks that great or uninteresting . Camera are a nice feature but not really an important one and I dont really see my self really using it. Since I dont have any GBA games I dont mind the missing slot. Games look great on the DSi but once again cant compare it to DS or DS Lite. I really hope they do alot with DSiWare since there alot of games that would be great to have like all the Zelda games.

Id rather buy another 360 for 170 so I can do system link at my crib than buy a dsi. Thats just me though. The hype will die down fast once you relaize there are not that many games for it and the dsi ware sucks. I think nintendo is trying to pull a fast one with this slightly better system.

The DS seems to have an incredible library of games.
For one i know i could buy more games for my DS than i have for my 360 or PS3 and everyone has gotten great reviews and will be a worthwhile purchase.

I see more games on DS that are alot more worthwhile picking up then the ones on the PSP.

I usually never watched movies on my PSP only time I do was when I bought the PSP twice cause it came with movies I never seen at that time plus we are talking about the games so watching movies gets no points from me. I kind of regret rebuying a PSP cause I barely play it so it was a kind of waste of money on my part. As far as games go I like the DS titles alot more and Scat brought up some good titles. DSi Ware suck I agree but give it a few months and I believe we will see some very good titles on it hopefully some old game boy games as less as something new game

Yeah scat but those are ALL DS games I caom play on the lite. whats the point in spending an extra $50 or dropping $170+ for the i version?
There’s about the same amount of good psp games. The whole point of what im saying is that people are dropping 170+ dollars for some shit that MARGINALLY better than what they already have. Nintendo is pulling a fast one. Matter of fact the psp allows all that downloadble games shit from the psp store over wifi already and you didnt have to buy a BRAND NEW system to do it. The just updated the firmware. The DSI is snake oil. You watch.
And the last zelda game for the DS was shit and the new one probly will be shit. The track record says it all.
Also szuter is saying that “all these” dsware games will be coming out. yeah right. when was the last time you rushed to wii ware for some hot new shit? LMAO. screw nintendo man. they promised all this shit and theres like 3 games on wiiware that I would even consider.

lol i wasn’t saying that you can’t play these on your Lite, you said something about there not being alot of games, so thats why i made the list to show how many good games there are.
I owned a PSP but got rid because without the 2nd analogue stick it sucked imo. Maybe it would be different if i could have hacked the shit but we are not all hacker savvy lol. Plus from some of the shit i been reading on the net recently they might just be announcing a new PSP at E3 so i will keep my eyes open for tha before i go dropping money on another one.
I did say in the beginning that for people who already own the Lite then i wouldn’t suggest upgrading to the DSi just yet, but if you haven’t owned any of the systems yet then i would go for the DSi.
I admit that from a technical and feature point of view then the PSP wins hands down, but when it comes to games i think the DS has got it.
I respect your opinion either way Brook. At least we got some good shit to talk about on next weeks podcast lol

I know i won’t be selling mine within 3 months because the main reason i got it was for when i start Uni and all the travelling i will be doing. Need something to keep me occupied on the journeys.
