What are your thoughts on the gaming community itself? At times, I’ve noticed that gamers are very unwilling to see change in the games they love. We rarely want a game to deviate from its original inception if it was a classic( Deus Ex 1, Cole’s hair in Infamous 2 being changed b/c gamers wanted the old Cole model instead of the new one with hair). Do you think this hinders developers creativity once they got a game with a cult following?

Your lucky this isn’t GAF. This is a question were the fanboys would come out and kill!

I do not want Trophies, Money or not even a title saying I am number "1". You can have your cheap trophies, paper titles, and dingy headbands. I am a "STORY" to my peers, a "LEGEND" for your kids to hear, and a "FOLKLORE" to keep you from dieing with fear - Calvin D. Kates aka Chauncy "TRU" Talon.

I dont like changes for the sake of changes. For example look at uncharted 3 multiplayer. Its like they are trying to justify the new game by adding all these unnecessary layers of shit thats just complicating it and hampering the fun and play that was more about skill and less about exploiting the mechanics. It was good before because it was simple. Get gun shoot gun, roll, duck or jump. Now theres so many exploits because of the sprint and all that other shit they added.

With Infamous they wanted to change Cole to make him more marketable. There was no reason to change him that much and it was a lame cash grabby move they tried to pull with that. Its like they sat at a meeting and was like… “A cooler looking hero approved by focus group will sell more units.” That shit has nothing to do with creativity.

Its a balancing act you dont want to change the core but you dont want it to get stale either. Zelda is a prime example of a game that’s almost the same shit every time. Yeah, Nintendo is the biggest suspect of staying the same mostly and now they are fucked lol. I say if you add or change it make it relevant and add to the fun factor. Often times less is more. I hope naughty dog reads this lol. Just make it count and not just be a back of the box line item.

I feel where you’re saying, I just dislike the idea of IP’s becoming Madden like and barely changing with each iteration. I want to another game with the same osrt of creative spark that irrational games shows with their Bioshock series( minus bioshock 2…which was ehhh).

It could either way.
If no changes come people might complain, that the developers are lazy and arent coming out with new ideas.
If developers do introduce new things people once again will moan and complain that they changed something with the game.

War.
War never changes.

True. Innovation is not often supported well & the amount of money going behind designing such games are big challenge to alot of developing studios. It is so much easier just to release several sequels & prequels and call it day. I think the newest niche for innovations is the small downloadable game projects which are small scale and require little investment.
