Sure to get gamers with graying temples moist around the eye sockets, Nintendo has just announced that the Commodore 64 is to be added to the burgeoning list of systems emulated on the Wii’s Virtual Console.
Initially only available on the European Wii Shop Channel, the games will cost 500 Wii points each (£3.50). While most of this generation’s experience of the 1980’s powerhouse will be limited to a parody of its loading screen propping up the front-end of Vice City, Commodore’s console was at the forefront of 8-bit gaming and is the single best selling personal computer unit of all time.
It joins the (deep breath) – NES, SNES, N64, Mega Drive, PC Engine, Neo Geo, Master System and Game Gear on the Virtual Console, making Nintendo’s service a comprehensive window into the dusty annals of gaming history. International Karate and Uridium are among the first titles to be available, but with such a healthy back catalogue expect more to follow shortly.
Classics on the Commodore 64 include Geoff Crammond’s Sentinel, Head Over Heels and Jeff Minter’s Attack of the Mutant Camels, but which C64 games would you like to see ported over?

If i still had my Wii i’d be really excited about this.
The Commodore 64 was the very first games system i played on, when i was about 4 or 5.
A classic game i will never forget and one that definately has to be released through the VC is “Midnight Resistence”.
If no one knows what i’m on about then you’re missing out a truly amazing game.
