We capped the evening off (thanks to Nintendo’s early ass conference the next day) by attending an open bar (and open kitchen) event hosted by the team at Destructoid. It was at a place called Cafe Brass Monkey (does every E3 party venue have to have a bizarre name?) Upon walking up to the event I noticed a barrage of drunkards hanging out in front of the door slurring their words and yelling like spring breakers (that’s usually an indicator of good times to come). Once inside the event seemed more like a frat party than an industry mixer. The booze was flowing like a football tailgate. There was an assortment of beer and mixed drinks. I had a nice jumble of Heineken X Newcastle X Stella and double fisted for a majority of the evening. Of the 100+ people who were uncomfortably smashed into this venue built to only hold about 60 people tops I would say a good 15% were chicks (counting the waitresses…lol). That’s a pretty good ratio for this industry.
The major fail of the evening (in my opinion) was the theme of the party, karaoke. As great as this idea must have seemed on the whiteboard during the Destructoid E3 brainstorming session in reality there is nothing thrilling about listening to a bunch of drunk bloggers sing their favorite Hall and Oates songs in falsetto. Never the less on a scale of weak to dope (dope being the highest) I gave the Destructoid party a score of DOPE. The food and liquor was flowing all night, a group of dudes got the party hype when they sang the theme to Ghostbusters and there was a dude at the party dancing around with a robot head. Success!!!
