15. Super Mario 64 (Nintendo/Nintendo 64)
Mario games were doing just fine in 2-D, but Super Mario 64 took a bold leap forward with 3-D. The result is terrific, whether you’re flying through the air, swimming underwater or pounding Goombas by jumping on or punching them. The graphics and music are good (for an N64 debut), and the inclusion of Metal Mario is sheer genius, letting you walk on ocean floors and gather otherwise inaccessible items.
