According to a new article in Esquire Magazine Jay-Z and Steve Stoute met over a friendly game of Madden.
A former executive at Sony, where he first met Jay-Z over a game of Madden, Stoute eventually slithered over to the advertising world and worked his way up the ranks, learning how to sell street gear to white America.
Jay-Z and Steve Stoute later started “Roc Nation” and “Translation Advertising” together helping them both hit the #16 spot on the Forbes 40 under 40 list last year. Of course old ass Jay-Z will not be able to make that list this year since he hit 40 this past December.
Stoute, former EVP of Interscope Records, founded marketing firm Translation Consultation & Brand Imaging, which paired Justin Timberlake with McDonald’s for “I’m Lovin’ It” before he sold it to Interpublic.
Jay-Z and Steve Stoute now run a division that helps giants like State Farm and Johnson & Johnson reach the urban market.
So there. A game of Madden CAN change your life. Keep playing, just get new friends to play with.
