Trine is a 2D side scrolling action, puzzle, RPG based game. First of all let me just say, this game was not on my radar whatsoever. The first I had heard about Trine it was via reading about people bitching on the Playstation Blog about it not being released because of all the delays. I thought it was going to be another first person shooter to be honest. That was until it was finally released on the UK store a few weeks ago and i was looking at some videos of it. It looked fun. Anyway this afternoon I was looking for some games to buy and well Trine was just calling out to me. I had watched a few video reviews up to this point and decided to go ahead and buy it, and well i am very happy I did.
As I said, Trine is a 2D side scrolling action, puzzle, RPG based game. You take control of 3 characters, a Thief, Wizard and a Warrior, trapped by the mystical artifact known as the Trine, you set off to rid the kingdom from the undead. Only one character appears on the screen at a time, but you scroll through each of them using the R1 and L1 buttons.
Like i said before, there are puzzles, you need to use each of the characters abilities to overcome the obstacles ahead. The wizard from instance can conjure up boxes which will allow you to use to get to ut of reach places, they can be used as weights, and even be used to knock other items off higher platforms.
You can explore the levels looking for secrets and experience, which you can find or gain from killing enemies. This enables you to level up and spend your experience on better items and weapons.
The visuals are stunning. The game uses colour magnificently and everything just looks serene.
Also the sound is great, the music is just beautiful to listen to, it has a very medieval feel to it and really emerses you into the game. The way the story is told is solid and the dialogue between the characters whilst playing can be hilarious.
Now i have only played for just over an hour but i am really enjoying it. You can download the game from the Playstation Store for £15.99. Unfortunately it will not be released on the US Store until October 22nd. Expect a full review from me, possibly next week after I have had time to finish the game. I’m hopeing to get it out of the way before Uncharted 2 drops.
