street fighter is more mind games than anything… or rather its 50% predicting what that other person will do and 50% being able to execute the move that will take advantage of the prediction.
Newer players should ease into being fancy until they can execute moves often.
And yeah…fuck a pad. LOL I originally played street fighter in the arcade(junior high…highschool in the 90’s) but after years of playing alpha etc on playstation using a dpad I did successfully move to joysticks and I am very glad I did it because I can execute shit waaay better now that im in the comfort zone with the joystick. There are techniques like pianoing and negative edge (look it up lol) that you can do on a joystick that cant be easily done on pad.
