Rush Releases or Wait to Understand

      I’ve noticed that 2012 seems to be a year of slim pickings b/c of the close approach of the next gen. I’m certain alot of developers and publishers will soon be at work creating titles for the next xbox/playstation/wii console.

      How do you feel about the way developers act once the news consoles are on the horizon? Do you think developers should abandon the old gen entirely once the new stuff is close to release? Do you think developers should rush to capitalize on the new gens marketability & rush to release games on it? Do you think they should slow up and wait to entirely understand the technology before putting games out on it?

        I don’t think 2012 will be a year of slim pickings there are still a lot of high profile games being released and more yet to be announced at the likes of E3 etc. we got the likes of:

        The Last Guardian
        Halo 4
        Mass Effect 3
        Bioshock Infinite
        MGS HD Collection
        Tomb Raider
        Resident Evil Revelations

        And let’s not forget the Playstation Vita and Wii U.

        So there is definitely going to be plenty of choice.

        The next gen is getting closer and a lot of developers will soon commence work of games and tech demos etc, but I can’t see them abandoning current consoles just yet. Other that the Wii U I can’t see the new Playstation or Xbox being released until the end of 2013, early 2014, so there are still plenty of games to play before we have to worry about that.

        I’d also say that if Sony make their next system as complicated to develop for as they did the PS3, then the earlier they can send dev kits out then the better, because then we might not have to wait 2 years into the life cycle until we actually start seeing the proper potential of the console.

          Well look at the 3DS the most popular games and highest rate game have been ports. They have yet to release a first party “new” game unless I am forgetting something. With the system being out 7 or so months. So they seem to being waiting with this one. It would of been much more successful if of the bat the was one or two AAA first party games. But has we all know the sales havent been that good thanks to the line up. So the system has too come out with a reasonable amount of good titles on or near launch period for the system to sell at the beginning.
