First of Zip.ca is just like Netflix sending DVDs/Blu-Rays in the mail.
So I am not pissed that the prices are going up per plan that much. The plan I am in is going to be 5 bucks more expensive that before.
But on top of that each Blu-ray they send me I am gonna be charged and additional $1 which I think is just crazy. Trying to find a replacement but the only other company I know of is Rogers Video Direct but they are doing the exact same thing now. I kinda think they are owned by the same company.Copy of the e-mail I got today.
When I started Zip.ca over seven years ago, my goal was to bring the best movies and entertainment right to your doorstep. I wanted to create a service for you that would be of the highest quality at an affordable price; a company that was flexible and responsive to your needs. And a company that listened to you, making changes to our service accordingly. I didn’t care about being the biggest, just the best. All that is still true.
Zip.ca is all about bringing you your movies, your way. I am committed to constantly improving our service to you. This means offering you more movies, more personalization and more convenience. You may have seen us rolling out conveniently located kiosks in Ontario and Quebec. Zip.ca will continue to roll our kiosks out across the country to every province and territory.
As part of my commitment to improve services to you, Zip.ca will be introducing some changes to its Mail service in the next weeks that I wanted to share with you personally. I have followed your comments, ideas and suggestions in the Zip.ca forums, on social media and through various touch points with our Member Services Team. These changes reflect many of your suggestions.
Since we launched over seven years ago, we’ve worked hard to find ways of delivering you great value without ever raising prices. This has been challenging at times, especially since our cost of a stamp has increased more than 25%. In addition we have seen the introduction of Blu-ray discs that have greatly increased our inventory costs. I am pleased to say that more members than ever are enjoying their movies in the ultra high quality picture and sound that Blu-ray offers, and we’re excited to grow our Blu-ray catalogue.
We have reached a point where we can no longer offer the same quality of service at the prices we have maintained over the last seven years. We will never compromise on quality. For that reason, we will be raising our Mail subscription prices and making some other changes to our Mail service offerings and packages. These changes will help not only to maintain the great Zip.ca experience you have come to depend on, but to improve it. The changes will take effect on November 1, 2011.
We have listened to you and realize that Blu-ray is becoming more popular for many of you. We are growing our Blu-ray catalog quickly to reduce the length of time you wait for high demand Blu-ray titles. Starting November 1, Blu-ray will only be available on the 2 out DVD plans and higher, and we will charge a $1 fee for every Blu-ray rental you receive.
We are also going to simplify our Mail services. There will no longer be different prices for our “Gotta Have It” service depending on the movie. All “Gotta Have It” charges will now be $4.99. Many of you have been asking about our ZipRefill service. It will continue to be available on all plans except the 1 DVD plans. On plans with a monthly rental limit, all DVD shipments you request over that limit will be at the same cost of $3.
Your continued enjoyment of our service is important to me and I assure you that these changes will allow us to improve the quality of your experience with us. We will continue to grow both our DVD and Blu-ray libraries and concentrate on delivering an entertainment experience tailored exactly to you.
I know you will understand the necessity of these changes in order for us to continue to provide you movies and TV right to your doorstep. If you have any questions about these changes feel free to call us or chat with our Member Services Team. We have also put up an extensive list of answer to many of the questions we think you may have. This can be found at help.zip.ca.
I know you have many choices where to spend your entertainment dollars and I thank you for choosing to spend it with Zip.ca.
Yours truly,
Rob Hall
