The Official "Demon’s Souls" Thread

Damn, turns out the Deluxe Edition of the game has now gone out of print.
If i was to win this comp i was going to try and persuade Brook to get me that instead of the Standard and i was going to bribe him with games i downloaded from the PSN, Trine etc lol.

I know he likes his bargains, i’m sure he would like getting games for free even better hahaha.

So i got the game today, Thanks to Brook, and i’ve played for about 2-3 hours.
It’s a really enjoyable if extremely frustrating game.
I think the first thing to talk about is the difficulty.
After reading reviews and other people’s thoughts on it, i felt really intimidated about actually playing it. Alot of people have said it only takes an enemy to hit you 2 or 3 times before you die.
What they seemed to have forgotten to mention is YOU only have to hit an enemy 2 or 3 times for them to die also.
This is where i begin to get confused though, because yes the game is difficult, at least in the beginning for those who have no patience, you can easily study an enemies patterns within 45 seconds of encountering them.

I think one of the major reasons people keep dying is because alot of the battles seem to take place in very narrow areas. One of the best strategies i have found is to wait for an enemy to charge at you, dodge the attack by rolling to the side and then you proceed to attack them whilst their back is to you.
Like i said, most battle areas are very narrow places, so being able to get behind the enemy isn’t always possible.
Some even take place on giant staircases, so if the camera begins to fuck up and you are not sure where the enemy is, chances are you will fall off the edge to your death.

There is no shortage of health either, most enemies drop items and you can pretty much guarantee there will be some sort of health to pick up.

Th beauty of the game though is that you want to carry on playing even after you die so many times.
I have died about 10 times within the time i have played, but it makes you want to keep playing and get past that twat who killed you and reclaim those lost souls.

So ye, i think the key to the game is you HAVE to learn the enemies patterns.
I know i said i have dies about 10 times, but that was practically just on one part that was nearing the end of level anyway.
If you die you lose your souls and you restart from the very beginning of level, but getting back to the part where you died is no problem as long as you have learned the patterns. It’s worked for me. I’ve not failed to reclaim my souls once yet.

The game does save often, so if you need to quit out you can and return to that same place. Beware though, as soon as you die and lose your souls the game saves straight away so don’t think you can keep dying and just load up an old save and everything will be ok, because it’s not lol.

One thing i think is pretty stupid though is that you can not Pause the game at all. Even opening the XMB will not cause the game to pause, so you need to play this game when you have got absolutely no distractions.
For example, i was playing before and the phone begins to ring. I need to pick it up but that means having to go into the next room, when i came back in i had been killed, and had to do it all over again.

Overall though, i am really enjoying it.
I’m glad i was able to get it.
I’d recommend it.

Please note though that i am only at the beginning of the game so the difficulty could switch up soon enough, but as of this moment, it’s not too bad.
I found playing through Call of Duty 4 on Veteran alot harder.

Hands Down one of the very best and most addictive games of the year. I’m 16 hours in and I’m loving it to death and my death has come around about 50 times already, no shit. Szuter, Talon, you need to be putting some decent hours into this game. For everyone else, if you think of yourself as a gamer then buy this. This game will put your skills to the test.
