XBOX 360 price drop?

Rumour: Xbox 360 Pro being Discontinued

With the continued rumours of a price drop for the PlayStation 3 occurring in the near future, many people have been wondering what Microsoft have planned in order to counter this. If this photo of the latest Arcade retail box is anything to go by, then it appears than one step they are taking is getting rid of the Xbox 360 pro SKU and just having the Xbox 360 Arcade and Elite SKU’s.

Other nuggets from the box are that it appears that the Audio/Video cable provided with the Xbox 360 Elite will no longer be the HD component cable but will only be Standard definition composite, and it may no longer come with a HDMI cable. What is curious is that the box states the Xbox 360 arcades storage as 256 MB when it is currently shipping with 512MB, though it is possible that the 256 MB refers to free memory once mandatory files are taken into account.
It has to be noted that this is at the moment pure conjecture being solely based on shots of an arcade box, and it is possible that the Pro is continuing, but just not being shown on the box. If not, then it is possible that the Elite will be brought down to the Xbox 360 Pro’s current price point to counter the threat of a cheaper PS3, with the Elite’s current place in the range being taken next year by a Natal bundled SKU.
