Capcom has officially just dropped the details on the highly anticipated Championship mode. First off it will be FREE! There will be a new point/ranking system called “Championship Points” (CP) along with blind select.
Also included are replays options that function a bit differently on the PS3 and Xbox 360. On the PS3 version you will be able to “rate” matches but on the Xbox version you cannot rate them but you can download and save matches to your hard drive.
You can also display the inputs on saved matches. No word on whether you can “share” downloaded matches on the Xbox 360. The real kick in the nuts is the fact that multiplayer “lobbies” will not be included in this update. Here is the official press release:

Street Fighter IV’s Championship Mode update expands on the fighting fun by offering players the chance to compete in tournaments and to watch replays of the best tournament matches. Best of all: it comes to you at no cost! The Championship Mode update will be available for both PS3 and Xbox 360 owners on Friday, April 24 (times TBD).
Championship Mode offers you the chance to compete in 5 different grades of tournaments, creating the right challenge for players of every skill level. You’ll score Grade Points (GP) for tournament wins, and as your GP total grows, you’ll become eligible to enter into more exclusive tournaments. Winning tournaments will also net you Championship Points (CP). CP are like “prize money” up for grabs in the tournament. The higher the GP skill of the players in a particular tournament, the bigger the CP prize!
Replay Mode allows you to select and watch the best Championship Mode tournament matches.
On the PlayStation Network, you can rate matches while you watch according to characteristics such as “awesome” or “funny.” Replays are then ranked based on these vote ratings.
On Xbox Live, instead of rating the matches, you can choose to download and save your favorite replays to study the players’ techniques. You’ll also be able to turn on the input commands from both players to be able to review their button and joystick motions in precise detail.

No lobbies is a big :v: Even if you couldnt “watch” and you just saw energy bars it would be nice. HUGE FAIL on this.
Weird that they didn’t announce any character balancing or other patch details.
Honest truth IMO I think this is useless… Like really what’s the point in having ANOTHER grade system when everyone on the leader-boards boost themselves up and/or drop every other game because they care so damn much about there points.
There prime focus should of been on making a lobby with at least maybe 16 people can join and having different game types like winner-stays matches, tournament mode, team battle, survival, and if they really wanted to get creative a tag mode.
I don’t even consider this DLC improving the game at all…
Another note on the DLC stuff.. Those Alternate Costumes should of been for free.. If the arcades are unlockable then why make the console versions pay? It should of been where you complete there Hard Trial modes and it unlocks it.
Now we just need to wait to see if the rumors of T-hawk and Deejay is confirmed for the next DLC.
