Best Buy this week began offering pre-orders for Sony Corp.’s 80GB Playstation 3 model through its online division.
Bestbuy.com is selling the 80GB PS3 SKU at $599.99. The item, which will include an 80GB PS3 console with a copy of MotorStorm, is listed as ‘Coming Soon’ on the online product page.
Retailers EB Games, GameStop, and Amazon.com have begun accepting pre-orders for the latest PS3 hardware. Sony in July announced that it will release the 80GB model sometime this month.
The current $499 60GB SKU will be sold until quantities are depleted.
The PS3 has sold 1.4 million units to date in the U.S. Top titles include Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm.
The company has sold 4.3 million PS3 units worldwide. It expects to ship 11 million units this business year.
Sony last month previewed new PS3 titles and services, including a new social networking platform called Home.
